Fire Code Consulting & Compliance
Building & Fire Code Analysis.
Research and identification of appropriate requirements based on
the unique site-specific situation; code equivalency
development; innovative solutions which save time and money in
design, construction and operations; development of approaches
which integrate the various building systems into a
comprehensive fire protection and life safety package. Provide
code supported
interpretations of building and fire code provisions to
determine the intent of a requirement.
Negotiations with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
Technical and code discussions with building and fire officials
to fully explain project criteria, compliance and alternative
code approaches; acquisition of AHJ approvals for fire and life
safety systems.
Fire Code Requirements High-Piled Storage.
Determine allowable storage heights based on fire protection,
storage arrangements, commodity classification, occupancy, and
building type. Prepare a detailed Fire Protection and Commodity
Classifications Report demonstrating compliance with local fire
code and NFPA requirements.
Egress Analysis. Review of architectural drawings for
compliance with the local building code exiting requirements;
detailed exit calculations and diagrams; development of
alternative innovative solutions to complex exiting situations.
Fire Code Requirements for Hazardous Materials & Chemicals. Determine local code requirements based on hazard
classifications, exempt or allowable quantities, secondary
containment requirements, commodity compatibility, fire
detection and suppression systems design criteria; provide HMMP
(Hazardous Materials Management Plans), HMIS (Hazardous
Materials Inventory Statements), Facility and Site Plans and
Hazard Communication Programs, acquisition of AHJ approvals for
the handling, use, dispensing and storage of hazardous
materials.
Fire & Life Safety Master Planning & Program Development. Analysis of site development, distribution of hydrants, and fire
department access requirements. Assessment of existing fire
suppression, fire alarm, and fire detection systems, Evaluation
of building systems, such as, fire command center, lead acid
battery systems, fueled emergency power systems, smoke control
and evacuation systems. Fire and life safety analysis report
details the occupancy classification, building construction,
existing conditions, and applicable code requirements based on
the year of construction and current code requirements.
Emergency & Disaster Planning.
Effective pre-emergency plans are necessary in the event of an
emergency to prepare your occupants for an effective
evacuation. Evacuation plans include building / tenant
programs, egress routes, operation procedures for personnel to
operate critical equipment, assembly areas and accountability,
emergency notification procedures, identification of emergency
contacts, egress diagrams, and site plans identifying assembly
points, fire department access routes, primary and secondary
evacuation routes for occupants, and areas of refuge.
Site Investigations. On-site survey to determine existing
conditions. Prepare written report identifying Authority Having
Jurisdiction, primary codes, applicable fire protection and life
safety requirements, use of existing fire protection equipment,
estimate of construction costs, required permits, and fees.
Code Conflict Resolution. Fire & Life Safety Services has
developed strong professional relationships with numerous
building and fire department officials throughout the country.

Materials and Methods. Prepare documentation of practical difficulties and demonstrate
requested modification does not lessen health, life and fire
safety requirement. Provide Alternative Materials and Methods
proposals and designs that comply with the intent and provision
of locally codes
